Joanna Gleason's Master Class

Scene work, song work, monologues and audition prep.

"Bring a ballad from Broadway, off Broadway, or any of the greats from Irving Berlin,Rogers and Hart through Billy Joel...but a ballad. Know the whole song. Bring sheet music. (binder not necessary)?Dress comfy. Bringing water or snack. June 12th, we'll work songs only.... songs to have in your toolbox, or a song you're working on for an audition. Have a couple of choices in case I hate your first choice :-) sometimes I do :-)"-Joanna Gleason

Participants bring a monologue, classic or contemporary OR a ballad from Broadway, Off-Broadway or just any great song from the American Songbook (Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, or even Billy Joel, Paul Simon, James Taylor etc.)

There's no emphasis on performance during the class, though pieces become more audition ready. Often, other actors from class assist in the exercises. The actors are invested in each others work, learning even as observers and adjunct participants.

The goal is to keep the actor from worrying about the unessentials: how am I doing, how do I look, how do I sound, etc.
